Braces do more than just straighten your teeth. They can also change your facial structure, giving you a whole new appearance with your beautiful smile.
It may seem hard to believe, but your teeth truly shape your mouth. If your teeth are out of place, it can affect the look of your face, particularly the lower half. You’ll be amazed at how different you can look with braces treatment!
Don’t just take our word for it! At Woodhill Dental Specialties, we see firsthand how braces treatment transforms the faces — and the lives — of our patients in Dallas, TX, and Rockwall, TX. We photograph our patients before and after their treatment so they can see what we see.
Our patients and their families are amazed at how braces change face shape before and after. They’re also amazed at how much better they can bite, chew, and even breathe after braces treatment.

AP came to us because she said she hated her smile — something we never like to hear! She was overly conscious of how her teeth looked, but she was also worried about losing her front teeth. That’s because the bad position of her teeth was causing severe tooth wear.
She also had a tooth that hadn’t dropped properly, an impacted canine. She was worried that tooth would never drop properly, giving her a “snaggletooth” look.
We placed AP in our clear ceramic braces, which she wore for 16 months. She was an excellent patient, following our guides on wearing and maintaining her braces properly. We not only straightened her teeth with braces, but we also fixed her severely worn teeth afterward by covering them with veneers. She tells us she loves her new smile, and we couldn’t be happier for her!

Teeth and Gums Before and After Braces: Patient 2
Patient TF wanted to improve her smile but was hesitant to alter her gums or teeth. But her teeth looked shorter than usual because of the gums, and she had small lateral incisors — the incisors that sit on opposite sides of the front teeth. Her teeth were also misaligned on both the top and bottom.
New patients get a thorough examination, including dental images and x-rays that allow us to see all the dental issues. From there, we use high-tech software to create a detailed plan to give the patient the smile of their dreams. We were able to show the patient what their smile would look like once everything was done.
After that, the patient was ready to begin treatment. Because her case was complicated, it would need to be completed in several steps.
We began with 15 months of braces treatment, which addressed most of the spaces between her teeth. Bonding to her small incisors took care of the rest. Non-invasive surgery on her gums made her teeth visibly longer, giving her the amazing smile she always wanted.
To this day, she is incredibly proud of her smile and is one of Woodland Dental Specialties’ biggest cheerleaders.

AX came to us with a significant overbite and a large space between her two front teeth. She wanted her teeth to look more “normal,” so we worked on a treatment plan with braces to take her smile from normal to fabulous!
We put AX in braces for 15 months and had her use light elastics to bring her overbite under control. Not only did it reshape her teeth, but getting rid of the overbite reshaped her face. Her upper lip was no longer overlapping her lower lip, and her chin didn’t appear as tucked in as before.
Diligent use of her braces elastics and encouragement from her family gave her the results we all wanted. Today, she’s happy to show off her beautiful, new smile!

LL visited Woodhill Dental Specialties because he didn’t like his “set-back chin.” A large overbite set his upper jaw forward and tucked his chin under it.
His teeth flared inward as well, and other family members had had surgery to correct their bites. He was hoping he could correct his bite with braces instead of oral surgery.
We needed to make proper room for his teeth, so we spent 12 months using dental appliances to modify and expand his jaw so his teeth could move. After that, we were able to put him in braces for 18 months.
The braces corrected the flare and the overbite and changed the shape of his face. His chin no longer appeared “tucked in” and lined up better with his upper jaw. His braces changed his facial structure, giving him a whole new profile and a whole new level of confidence!

Patient AP2 came to us with an underbite that had ground down her front teeth over the years. As an adult patient, she decided to have veneers to improve the appearance of her teeth. Unfortunately, she didn’t have enough room on her teeth for porcelain veneers because her teeth were crooked and misaligned.
We knew she wanted veneers at the end of her treatment, so Woodhill Dental Specialties created a treatment roadmap to get her to the smile of her dreams.
We put her in braces for 16 months, which corrected her underbite, teeth spacing, and an impacted canine. Once her teeth were in their proper places, she had room to get crowns and veneers that restored her smile and gave her great confidence. She loves her new smile!

Times in braces vary from patient to patient depending on the number and severity of dental issues, age, and other factors. The average time in braces is usually 12-24 months, but your time in braces will be determined during your first consultation.
Yes, braces can correct your overbite. They can also correct underbite, open bite, deep bite, crossbite, gap teeth, and crowded (crooked) teeth.
We try not to extract teeth if we can help it because we have other ways to create space, such as using a palate expander. However, if we feel we need to extract teeth, we will let you know during your first consultation.
